We accept previously unpublished fiction. No genre restrictions. No content restrictions.
What we're looking for: Good writing. Work that knows what it's doing. We don't care if it's realist, speculative, horror, romance, erotica, satire, or some genre that doesn't have a name yet. Send your best work, not your safest.
What we take: Fiction, up to 10,000 words. We'll consider a bit longer if it justifies the length, within reason.
Submissions are open year-round. We aim to respond within 90 days. If you haven't heard from us after that, follow up. We won't be offended.
Issue 1 is planned for 1 October 2026.
Formatting: 12pt Times New Roman, double-spaced, 2.54 cm (1 inch) margins. Left-aligned. Include your name and story title in the header. Number your pages. Scene breaks indicated by a centred ***. Nothing fancy, just keep it clean and readable.

How to submit: Email your work to submissions@nachtljocht.com with SUBMISSION and your name in the subject field as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf attachment. Include a brief bio (2–3 sentences) in the body of your email. No need to pitch or summarize, just send the story.
Simultaneous submissions: Fine by us. Just let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Editing: We may occasionally suggest minor edits or revisions. We will never publish changes without your approval.
Rights: First serial rights only. We get to publish it first and keep it in our archive. Everything else stays yours. You're free to republish anywhere after it appears in Nachtljocht. If you ever want your work removed from our archive, just ask.
Payment: We don't currently pay writers, but when we can, we will. Contributors to each issue will receive a complimentary copy of the hardcover edition.
